Fiction, nonfiction, flash, hybrid, lyric essay... we're looking for traditional and experimental prose forms in all genres, including literary, horror, sci-fi/speculative, acknowledging that the best work often transcends these labels. We like work that takes risks, that isn't afraid of being weird, and that shines on the sentence level.
You'll be prompted to specify the form and genre of your piece, as well as whether it is fiction or nonfiction, on the submission form.
For multimedia work: please send us a query briefly describing the project and the media it involves.
Collaborative work: we love when writers collaborate. If there is more than one author, just let us know in the cover letter and include all author bios as well.
All submissions must be previously unpublished.
Word count: up to 5,000 words
- Send only one piece at a time (or up to 3 flash pieces of 500 words or less).
Simultaneous Submissions: Yes.
Response Time: 1-3 months.
- Please wait until you hear from us before submitting more work. Please make sure you’re submitting to the correct category. Please do not send full manuscripts.
Compensation & Rights: We currently do not offer payment for writing that appears on BP review. We ask for first serial rights, and electronic archival rights. Rights revert to you upon publication.
Crediting Burrow: If something we published of yours is published elsewhere, such as in a collection or anthology, please note that it first appeared in Burrow Press Review.
